What you need to know about Injury Management Recruitment

Most return to work (RTW) coordinators in Australia earn between $75,000 and $110,000 base plus super. Pay depends on the state, the industry, whether the role covers a single site or a national portfolio, and whether it is contract or permanent. Senior injury management and national RTW roles sit above this range. For current figures by role and state, see HAYLO's annual Workers Compensation Salary and Talent Insights Survey.

No formal accreditation or certification is required for a Rehabilitation and Return to Work Coordinator (RRTWC) in Queensland. The employer must instead ensure their RRTWC is "appropriately qualified", and completing a course approved by the Workers' Compensation Regulator is the most common way to show this. Employers must appoint an RRTWC if their Queensland wages exceed 2,600 times QOTE (about $5 million) in a high-risk industry, or 5,200 times QOTE (about $10 million) in other industries.

In NSW, Category 1 employers must appoint an RTW coordinator with the training, skills and experience to perform the role. Category 1 employers are those with a basic tariff premium over $50,000 a year, self-insurers, or employers insured by a specialised insurer with more than 20 workers. SIRA offers free online RTW coordinator training, and employers can also outsource the role. Category 2 employers do not need a formal RTW coordinator.

Comcare is the federal workers' compensation scheme under the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988. It covers Australian Government agencies and statutory authorities, plus private companies licensed to self-insure under the scheme. Unlike the state schemes, Comcare applies one set of rules nationally, and it acts as both the work health and safety regulator and the insurer. Self-insured licensees manage their own claims, so Comcare RTW roles require specific knowledge of the SRC Act rather than state legislation.

Yes. Many employers hire contract RTW coordinators and injury management consultants to cover claim spikes, parental leave, or restructures, or while deciding on permanent headcount. HAYLO recruits contract, temporary and permanent RTW, injury management and workers' compensation professionals across Australia, including candidates available to start immediately.
