The Counter-Offer Trap: What the Data Says About Insurance Brokers Who Stay
In the insurance industry, we talk a lot about risk. But one of the biggest risks a broker can take has nothing to do with a client's policy. It's accepting a counter-offer.
At HAYLO, we have always believed that care should be at the heart of recruitment. For our team, it is never just about filling a role. It is about the people, the careers, and the long-term partnerships we build along the way. We know that a diverse team builds a stronger, more resilient business. This is a belief we live by internally, and it is a focus we share when partnering with organisations across Australia to build truly inclusive workplaces.
With International Women’s Day 2026 approaching, this year’s theme “When We Give, We Gain” really speaks to how we operate every day.
The idea behind "When We Give, We Gain" is simple but effective. When we invest in women through tailored training, mentorship, and clear career growth, we are not just supporting one person. We are driving better outcomes for the entire industry.
Across the specialisms we recruit in, Personal Injury, General Insurance and WHS, we see the benefits of diverse perspectives every day. When we give women the space to lead and the tools to grow, businesses gain a more adaptable and innovative culture. Within the General Insurance sector and Work Health Safety industries, leveraging data to remove bias ensures that equity is at the centre of every hiring decision.
A big part of how we support our community is through the HAYLO People Talent and Salary Insights Survey. We use this data to help businesses across the Personal Injury, General Insurance and WHS sectors create policies that actually support women in the real world.
For example, our survey helps companies implement better benefits for women returning to work after having children. Whether it’s flexible working arrangements or tailored support for those in Workers Compensation roles, these policies ensure we do not lose amazing talent. When businesses give that flexibility and care, they gain a loyal and highly skilled workforce in return.
Creating an environment where everyone feels heard is a collective effort. Our Co-Founder, Danielle Marshall, shares a perspective that is central to our culture here at HAYLO:
"No matter your gender we need everyone to play their part in creating a safe environment for women in the workforce. We should all be able to speak up, be heard and feel valued in our role. If you need advice, not just about your career but also how to handle challenging situations in your current role, then please reach out. I am always up for a chat!"
We are proud to partner with organisations that value Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. Our goal is to help you build a culture where every person feels represented and connected, whether you are hiring for Claims Management, WHS, or Insurance leadership roles.
This IWD 2026, let’s remember that when we give our support and advocacy, we aren't just ticking a box. We are building an industry where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
